TABLE TENNIS
CRICKET
Welcome to The Woodford Wells Club Table Tennis Section, which was formed in 1964. Our conditions at the Wells are ideal for Table Tennis (TT) as the space, flooring, lighting and tables are second to none. We offer league, social and junior activities, general practice and in-house tournaments.
Whether you want to play Table Tennis casually or wish to develop your skills to a competitive standard, your fellow TT section members, and the club facilities will support your playing targets.
This web page contains all the information needed to take full advantage of your TT section membership.

Leagues
Our club is keen on competing at Local and National levels for Juniors, Seniors and Veterans (over 40's).
We typically play in the Romford, West Essex and North Middlesex leagues with several teams in various divisions.
These Leagues generally run from September/October to around March. We always encourage and try to facilitate competitive play where members are keen to do so.
If you are interested in playing in a league, please call reception on 020 8504 1954 and ask for Paul Pells’ contact details.
COACHING OPPORTUNITIES
Our coaches provide one-to-one coaching for all levels and age groups. Some of the coaching sessions are held during club practice sessions (detailed in the timetable above), but the club sessions take priority and there should always be at least 3 tables (out of 5) available for practice.

HOW THE TT SECTION WORKS
TT Section Groupings
The TT section is informally divided into 5 skill-levels so that players of the same ability can more easily chat and arrange playing with each other. A WhatsApp Group is associated with each of these groupings. Each WhatsApp Group has 1 or 2 administrators. (see below).
Established members of the TT Section will have a clear idea of which group they should join and should therefore identify themselves to the relevant administrator(s).
New members or those being offered a ‘try-out’ prior to taking up membership should initially contact the administrator(s) of the most suitable group (see criteria below). An introductory practice session will then be arranged to confirm the appropriate group(s), based on ability.
Once you have been added to one or more WhatsApp groups you will be able to communicate with others in the group e.g. to arrange practice sessions or to find out who / how many players plan to attend any given session.
Please ask Reception (020 8504 1954) for phone numbers of the WhatsApp group admins.
Beginners / Improvers
Adult Players who wish to take up the sport for the first time; or those who have limited recent playing experience and wish to resume the sport and improve their playing standard.
(n.b. new players under 18 years old should join the Juniors Group – see below)
WhatsApp Admins Paul Bishop or Andy Ward.
Intermediates
Players who have played Table Tennis regularly for at least the last year and have attained a good standard: e.g. are competent in a range of different strokes; can sustain a rally of 20 or more shots against an established member of this group and understands the scoring / match play structure.
WhatsApp Admins Prash Lagisetti or Andy Ward.
Advanced.
Players who have played very regularly for several years (minimum) at a standard that would enable competitive play in the local league: Division-2 and below.
WhatsApp Admins Paul Pells or Prash Lagisetti.
Elite
Players who have previously or do currently compete in the top division of the local league or British League, or whose standard of play would make them eligible for such competitions.
WhatsApp Admins Zoltan Hosszu.
Juniors
There is junior coaching every day of the week, for all ages up to 18yrs, and all abilities. To see how the Junior Section is structured, which days are suitable to you and to book, go to the dedicated coaching website: www.woodfordtts.com or contact our Head Coach, Zoltan Hosszu
WhatsApp Admins Zoltan Hosszu.
This group structure (and the associated WhatsApp groups) is basically a communications tool designed to facilitate practice and skills-development with players of a similar playing standard. It is not intended as a ranking system and therefore there is no restriction on the number of WhatsApp groups that can be joined, and no restriction on members from one group arranging to play / practise with members of another group. (e.g. it is likely that those in the Elite WhatsApp group will also be in the Advanced WhatsApp group).
Also, it is not a requirement to pre-arrange a practice session. It’s also fine to simply turn up at the club during any open session and play with whoever is available.
Starting a Session
At the start of each session (see start times above) the hall may be empty and will need to be set up for play: the first player(s) to arrive should do this.
Up to 5 tables can be set up for each session. However, depending on the number of players present at the start of the session, it may be appropriate to set-up just one or two tables. As other players arrive, they can set-up additional tables.
Tables are stored (folded) in the two storage rooms in opposite corners of the Hall. The tables can be set-up for play by lowering each half of the table so that the legs are in contact with the floor and the surface of the table is flat. Some tables have locking mechanisms that need to be engaged. (seek help from other players or reception if needed).
Portable barriers are also available in the storage rooms and these can be set-up around the tables once the tables are in position.
Players are expected to supply their own bats and balls.
During the Playing Session
If there are empty tables and/or no players waiting to play, then each player can continue to occupy a table for as long as they wish. However, if the session is busy, all tables are in use, and players are waiting for a table to become available, players at tables are requested to vacate tables after approximately 20 minutes of play (or after a ‘best of 5’ match).
Ending a Session
At the end of each playing session (or when the last players in the hall have finished playing), any tables and barriers that are still out should be returned to the store rooms so that the hall is completely empty of table tennis equipment. (Barriers go away first, against the wall, followed by tables). It is the responsibility of the last players at a session (even if this is prior to the appointed finish time of the session) to clear the hall of TT tables and screens.
All play MUST end by the finish times stated above, and in the case of the evening sessions, all players must have vacated Woodford Wells Club premises not later than 23:00.
Communications
As well as the WhatsApp Groups associated with different playing standards (see info above), there is also an ‘All WWTT’ WhatsApp Group to which all TT section members will be added. (This will be done by the group admins, once you join one of the groups described in the above info). The ‘All WWTT’ WhatsApp group is used exclusively for the TT Section Committee to communicate with the membership for the purposes of making announcements or passing on relevant information. It is not intended to be used as a ‘chat group’ and consequently ‘responses’ has been disabled on this WhatsApp Group.
If you have any queries about the TT section or would like to raise any concerns, please contact the admins of your playing WhatsApp group. All administrators are committee members for the TT section.
